A group of servants bound to one another through Christ and our desire to inspire one another to godly living.
The Terlingua church of Christ is a group of servants bound to one another through Christ and our desire to inspire one another to godly living.
Our goal of being ready for the coming of Christ is to be accomplished first in our own lives, then in our local group. All of this is possible because of the Bible’s simplicity and clarity in attitude, purpose, and organization. The Bible, as our sole authority, provides clear guidance on how we should conduct ourselves, what our purpose is, and how our church should be organized.

Our members decided that each visiting family should receive a loaf of homemade banana-nut bread. Individuals bake this bread ahead of time so that we can extend a warm welcome to you.

Our local church does not use instrumental music during our assembly. Using only a person’s voice to praise may be unique in the religious world today, but it represents our desire to follow the pattern of the first-century church.

Most sermons last 25-30 minutes and focus on a better understanding of God’s word. The lesson begins with a Bible passage and features ideas to encourage individual growth and accountability.
— History of the Terlingua Church of Christ
You are welcome to participate in remembering the death of Jesus through the Lord’s Supper. Unleavened bread is for all to eat and represents the body of Jesus. After this, the fruit of the vine (grape juice) is provided to all and represents Jesus’ blood. The purpose of this is to remember the sacrifice Jesus made for man.
As a visitor, it is appropriate to place your visitor card in the collection plate. The members set aside money from their family budget to give each Sunday. This money helps maintain a place for us to meet and fellowship. It also supports individuals who teach the Gospel and helps fellow believers in need.

Nestled in the heart of the Big Bend desert, the Terlingua Church of Christ is a small but steadfast congregation with a big love for God and people. Its story began in nearby Lajitas, where missionaries Jerry and Ann—after serving more than twenty years in Guatemala—and Marguerita Chanslor started a small church that became a place of worship for travelers and winter residents alike.
On the third Sunday of July 2003, the first worship service was held—with folding chairs, bare walls, and eight joyful believers. Today, the Terlingua Church of Christ remains a welcoming light for locals and travelers alike. Attendance swells to 30–40 during the winter months, filling the simple desert church building with voices of praise.
Our Beliefs
Our local church is made up of equally significant individuals, although roles may differ. Each leader’s role is not just to lead, but to serve the rest of the people, demonstrating our commitment to each other.

— Our Foundation
We need purity and simplicity in our local church. Each member is to teach the Gospel, visit the sick, help the weak, and follow Christ’s example in serving one another. Ultimate authority resides in Christ and His Word.
